Has anyone seen this movie yet?
My siblings and I went to see it on Friday. It wasn't bad. It had a lot of funny moments, a few turns I didn't see coming, and the interactions between Spongebob and Plankton were fun to watch. However, the movie didn't feel all that epic, and felt more like a prolonged episode of Spongebob. The stakes weren't really that high and any danger was the result of Bikini Bottom overreacting to the loss of the Krabby Patty. Seriously, that's all the threat is. The Krabby Patty being taken by the pirate who wanted to open up his own restaurant (as revealed in the trailers). That's it. And some moments were pretty cliche and you could see them coming from a mile away.
But it was still entertaining nonetheless, so I didn't feel as though I wasted my money. The first movie is still way better, which still had the "steal the Krabby Patty formula" plot, but it still had higher stakes (Mr. Krabs was going to be killed and Plankton took over Bikini Bottom and turned its citizens into his slaves), had more tense, dramatic moments, it actually felt like the characters were in danger, etc.
The second movie could have been better if they had taken better advantage of the book, which could rewrite reality. The villain could have been much more threatening if they used that book more often. But they don't and that's quite a shame.
