This was quite a nice episode. We see a bit of what life is like for Penny and her mom, and we see some of the animals they have, and some of the enclosure areas. This has helped me when writing one particular scene in my fanfic, Need. The ep gives a sense of just how responsible the two can be. I imagine this is where Penny gets her highly responsible nature (not that Rudy isn't; I just imagine Penny is a bit more so), since she has to help take care of the animals. Her mother must also be quite organized and sane in order to deal with all of that. An insane Mrs. Sanchez wouldn't last very long with that kind of job.
It also shows that Penny is capable of saving the day. When all efforts failed and there was no magic chalk to be used, it was up to Penny to think of something. And sure enough, she does, managing to save everyone. It was a huge risk, erasing the portal like that. I imagine she was pretty scared as she may not have seen her friends again after that. At least everything worked out in the end.
