One of my favorite english comics, Bear Nuts is essentially a parody of The Care Bears, but takes a different direction. There's generally no long overarching stories, but they do still connect to each other. The artist manages to create a large cast of individually recognizable characters with their own quirks and flaws, and recently added two female characters, who are changing up the dynamic.
I found this comic a few years ago and followed it ever since. The art evolves slowly as she improves her skills, and the characters get development overtime and more dimensional.
